The Battle

History & Significance

During 1460 the Lancastrian government attempted to use its fleet to intercept Warwick's Calais squadron and prevent the Yorkist return to England. The royal fleet was hampered by poor command, desertion and the loss of key ships. Its failure to interdict Warwick's June 1460 landing was critical.
