The Battle

History & Significance

Lord George Murray — the Jacobite general — besieged his own family seat, Blair Castle, which was held by a government garrison. This was the last siege by one British force against a government force in British history. The news of Culloden forced the besiegers to abandon the siege. The anomaly of a man besieging his own ancestral home was widely noted.
