History & Significance

The Stanley intervention at Bosworth Field was the decisive act that determined the outcome of the battle and ended the Wars of the Roses. Lord Stanley and Sir William Stanley had shadowed both armies throughout the campaign. When Richard III charged directly at Henry Tudor, the Stanleys intervened. Richard was killed in the mele and the battle ended immediately.
