The Battle

History & Significance

Two of Glyndŵr's cousins — the Tudur brothers of Anglesey — captured Conwy Castle by hiding their men among the workforce on Good Friday while the garrison was at church. They held Edward I's magnificent castle for three months before surrendering on terms. The audacity of the capture demonstrated that no English fortress in Wales was immune. The Tudur family connection links directly to the later Tudor dynasty.
