The siege of Kenilworth Castle lasted six months in 1266, the longest siege in medieval English history. The garrison launched numerous sorties against the besiegers. Counter-mining operations were conducted when royalists tried to undermine the walls. A royalist fleet was even brought overland to contest the water defences. The Dictum of Kenilworth offered the garrison terms enabling their surrender.
