History & Significance

Following the Yorkist victory at Northampton in July 1460 and the capture of Henry VI, the Lancastrian queen Margaret of Anjou gathered forces and marched through the Midlands. Minor clashes occurred as Lancastrian forces requisitioned supplies and Yorkist local levies attempted resistance. The Midlands were a key recruitment ground for both sides, and the route through Northamptonshire and Leicestershire was a principal military corridor during the wars.

Forces Involved

Lancastrian: Queen Margaret\'s forces. Yorkist: local levies and retinues of Midlands gentry
