The Battle

History & Significance

The Mackays absorbed the minor lordship of Farr on the north Sutherland coast in the late fourteenth century, extending their territory to the Atlantic coast of Sutherland. Farr with its exposed north-facing bay had been the territory of a minor Norse-descended lord who submitted to Mackay authority. The absorption of Farr completed Mackay control of the entire north coast from Tongue to the boundary with Caithness.
