History & Significance

After the Mise of Amiens in January 1264 quashed the Provisions of Oxford, Simon de Montfort and the barons rejected Louis IX's arbitration and prepared for war. De Montfort mustered his forces in the midlands. Henry III called up his supporters. The period between the Mise of Amiens and the Battle of Lewes saw mobilization across England as both sides gathered their armies. Coventry and the midlands saw significant military movement.
