The Battle

History & Significance

The 1095 siege of Bamburgh was the culmination of Robert de Mowbray rebellion against William Rufus. Mowbray was captured trying to break the siege; his wife was then threatened that he would be blinded unless she surrendered. She gave up the castle. Mowbray spent the remaining thirty years of his life in prison.
