The Battle

History & Significance

The first Yorkist siege of Bamburgh in 1462 was part of the initial campaign to recover the Northumberland castles after the Lancastrian-Scottish offensive. Bamburgh surrendered relatively quickly in late 1462 before being retaken by Ralph Percy's defection. The 1462 operation established the template for the later 1464 artillery reduction.
