The Battle

History & Significance

Edward I's longbowmen shattered Wallace's schiltron formations after the Scottish cavalry fled. The defeat ended Wallace's period as Guardian of Scotland. He resigned and went into hiding, beginning his years of fugitive resistance until his capture and execution in 1305.
