The Battle

History & Significance

The Mackenzies pushed eastward from their Kintail base into Strathconon and the western margins of the Black Isle in the mid-fourteenth century. Strathconon was valuable agricultural land and its acquisition extended Mackenzie authority toward the Ross-shire lowlands. The Strathconon expansion was achieved through a combination of marriage alliances and military pressure on the lesser lords of the strath.
