History & Significance

Worcester was besieged and taken by royalist forces during the period between Lewes and Evesham as Prince Edward moved to control the Severn valley and cut off Simon de Montfort from relief. The capture of Worcester was part of Edward's brilliant strategic manoeuvre that eventually trapped de Montfort west of the Severn before Evesham.
