The Battle

History & Significance

The MacKintosh chiefs continued to press their hereditary claim to the superiority of Cameron lands in Lochaber through both law and force. The Camerons rejected these claims vigorously. This engagement in 1452 was one of the episodes in a conflict that persisted for more than a century, largely because neither royal courts nor the crown itself could definitively settle the competing claims in remote Highland terrain.
