History & Significance

Following the Yorkist victory at Mortimers Cross and Edward IVs accession, William Herbert conducted a systematic campaign to bring north Wales to Yorkist obedience. Local Lancastrian gentry in Merionethshire and Caernarfonshire were required to submit or face forfeiture. Herbert moved through the region with an armed retinue enforcing Yorkist authority.
