History & Significance

A preliminary Scottish defeat in the border warfare that preceded the Battle of Homildon Hill later in 1402. A Scottish raiding force under Mordach Stewart — son of the Duke of Albany, Governor of Scotland — was caught and routed at Nesbit Moor by the Earl of March and Hotspur. Several Scottish nobles were captured. The defeat foreshadowed the larger catastrophe at Homildon Hill a few months later where the Scots lost an entire army.
