The Battle

History & Significance

During the six-month siege of Kenilworth, the garrison mounted aggressive sorties against the besiegers, disrupting siege works and causing significant casualties. On one notable occasion the garrison sallied and captured siege equipment. Counter-mining operations were also conducted below the water defences. The siege became a war of attrition with casualties on both sides before the Dictum of Kenilworth offered terms.
