History & Significance

In 1403 Glyndŵr captured Carmarthen — the principal English administrative and commercial centre in south Wales. Its capture was a major psychological blow. Glyndŵr held his parliament at Machynlleth that same year and was crowned Prince of Wales in ceremony. 1403-04 was the high-water mark of his rebellion — he controlled more of Wales than any Welsh ruler had since Gruffudd ap Llywelyn in the eleventh century.
