The Battle

History & Significance

The MacLeod of Harris branch consolidated their authority over Harris and the adjacent Lewis-Harris boundary in the late thirteenth century as Norwegian authority over the Hebrides crumbled following the Treaty of Perth in 1266. The Harris MacLeods, a distinct branch from the Dunvegan MacLeods, created an autonomous lordship on the island that would persist as a separate entity until the MacLeod lines merged.
