The Battle

History & Significance

William Wallace, rising as Guardian of Scotland, besieged the English garrison at Dundee Castle in the summer of 1297. He left his forces investing the castle and marched north to intercept the English relief army — leading to the Battle of Stirling Bridge. After Stirling Bridge the garrison at Dundee quickly capitulated. The siege was part of Wallace's systematic campaign to expel English garrisons from Scottish towns and castles.
