The Battle

History & Significance

At Hedgeley Moor near Wooler on 25 April 1464 Lord Montagu defeated the last Lancastrian field army in the north. Sir Ralph Percy made a final charge and was killed, his famous last words recorded as he saved himself from no flight. The victory opened the road for the Scottish peace embassy to travel south.
