History & Significance

With Inverness taken, Jacobite forces extended their operations into Easter Ross and the Black Isle. Pro-government clans (Munros, Rosses and Sutherlands) maintained resistance in the far north. Dingwall and the Cromarty Firth area saw skirmishing between Jacobite raiding parties and government-aligned clans. The far north of Scotland never fell fully under Jacobite control, and the northern clans eventually helped end the rising.
