Heavy October rains caused the River Severn to flood catastrophically, preventing Buckingham's army from crossing near Tewkesbury to march into England. The floods were so severe they were recorded in chronicles as the Duke of Buckingham's Water. Abandoned by his men who returned home, Buckingham was soon betrayed.
