History & Significance

Ardchattan Priory was closely associated with the MacDougall family. After Bruce destroyed MacDougall military power at the Pass of Brander, his allies from Clan Donald raided the priory as punishment for the clan loyalty to the English crown. The priory was later rebuilt but the incident illustrates the religious dimensions of the clan conflict.
