The Battle

History & Significance

One of the final mopping-up operations after Evesham. Robert de Ferrers, Earl of Derby — who had switched sides repeatedly — was run to ground in Chesterfield church while his forces were routed outside. His capture eliminated the last baronial holdout in the Midlands. He was stripped of his earldom and spent years in prison, his lands given to Edmund, Henry III's son.
