The Battle

History & Significance

Brigadier Mackintosh of Borlum, one of the most capable Jacobite commanders of 1715, led a force that captured Inverness early in the rising. The government garrison was forced out. However, Mackintosh was soon ordered south to join the ill-fated march into England that ended in the surrender at Preston. His departure left the north without its best general.
