The Battle

History & Significance

Before the Battle of Mulroy itself, MacDonald of Keppoch expelled government officers attempting to enforce a court ruling over the Keppoch lands in favour of the MacIntoshes. These preliminary actions — attacking and routing government officers — precipitated the main battle. This represents the last confrontation between clan autonomy and central government before the Jacobite risings.
