The Battle

History & Significance

During the Tewkesbury campaign the Lancastrian army under Somerset deceived Edward IV by feinting toward the Cotswolds at Sodbury, then swinging westward to Bristol where they received money, men and artillery from the town. The manoeuvre temporarily wrong-footed Edward who had to redirect his march. It remains one of the more sophisticated tactical moves of the war.
