History & Significance

Domhnall Mór Ua Briain of Thomond inflicted a serious defeat on Norman forces attempting to expand into Munster. This battle demonstrated that the Normans could not easily conquer all Ireland and resulted in the Treaty of Windsor (1175), by which High King Ruaidrí acknowledged Henry II as overlord while retaining authority over unconquered Irish areas.
