The Battle

History & Significance

The MacRuari lords of Garmoran raided the southern Skye coast in 1220 in an attempt to extend their authority northward from Moidart and Ardnamurchan into Skye waters. The MacRuari sea-lords were the most active naval power among the Somerled successors and their raids on Skye challenged the Norwegian-aligned lords of the island.
