The Foul Raid of 1322 was a large-scale Scottish incursion into Northumberland conducted in late autumn, moving southward through the county burning towns, monasteries and farms. It coincided with the aftermath of the Battle of Byland and exploited Edward II's complete inability to mount effective resistance after that disaster. The raid devastated Northumberland's agricultural economy and forced wholesale population displacement, leaving much of the county in ruins by winter.
