The Battle

History & Significance

Robert Duke of Albany acting as Guardian of Scotland led expeditions northward to assert royal authority in Ross and the Highland margins. Albany used military force and political manipulation to extend Lowland governance into the Highlands and to counter the growing power of the Lordship of the Isles. His northern campaigns were part of the Stewart regime effort to prevent the complete independence of the Highland zone from royal governance.
