History & Significance

Edward IV's flight from England in September 1470 passed through Kings Lynn where he was briefly sheltered by the Hanse merchants before being transported across the North Sea to the Low Countries. He arrived in Burgundy almost destitute and had to negotiate Burgundian support from his brother-in-law Charles the Bold for his return.
