The Battle

History & Significance

The decisive battle of Kett's Rebellion. Warwick's professional army — including German and Italian mercenaries and cavalry — forced the rebels from Mousehold Heath onto open ground at Dussindale. Without their defensive hilltop position the rebels were massacred. Robert Kett escaped but was captured hiding in a barn. He was hanged in chains from Norwich Castle and his brother William from Wymondham church tower. Around 3,000 rebels were killed.
