The Battle

History & Significance

Beaumaris Castle was held by a Lancastrian garrison in 1460 as Yorkist forces consolidated control of the English mainland following the battle of Northampton. Jasper Tudor used north Wales castles as Lancastrian strongholds. Yorkist attempts to reduce Beaumaris were complicated by the difficulty of operations on Anglesey and the castle strong position. The garrison eventually submitted to Yorkist authority after Edward IVs final victory.
