Jack Cade's rebels crossed London Bridge with London's gates opened by sympathetic Londoners. The Lord High Treasurer Lord Saye was dragged from sanctuary and beheaded. However, the rebels' looting alienated Londoners; that night a battle was fought on London Bridge between rebels and the London garrison, lasting from dusk to dawn. A pardon dispersed most rebels; Cade fled to Sussex and was killed resisting arrest.
