History & Significance

The county of Lancashire was deeply Lancastrian in affinity, with the Stanley family controlling much of the county. In 1460 local musters were called to support Queen Margaret, though Stanley equivocation about which side to support became a characteristic feature of the Wars of the Roses in Lancashire.
