History & Significance

A major engagement early in the Bruce invasion in which Edward Bruce comprehensively defeated the Earl of Ulster's forces. The scale of the victory opened Ulster to Scottish control and encouraged many Gaelic Irish lords to join the Bruce cause against Anglo-Norman rule.
