History & Significance

The Battle of Hexham on 15 May 1464 was Montagu's second great victory against the Lancastrian northern army within a month of Hedgeley Moor. Somerset was captured after his army was surrounded near the Tyne. Somerset and other Lancastrian leaders were executed at Hexham. This action effectively ended organised Lancastrian military resistance in the north.
