History & Significance

The last native Prince of Wales, Llywelyn ap Gruffudd, was killed at Orewin Bridge during Edward I's final conquest of Wales. He was separated from his main army in circumstances that remain mysterious — possibly lured into a trap. His head was sent to London and displayed on the Tower. With his death, Welsh princely independence ended.
