History & Significance

Richard de Clare, attempting to conquer Thomond (County Clare), was lured into a trap and killed along with most of his army. The battle permanently ended Anglo-Norman power in Clare and allowed the O'Brien dynasty to reassert control over Thomond. A landmark battle of the Gaelic resurgence.
