History & Significance

A skirmish near Restennet Priory in Angus during the complex warfare of 1335-36 when Edward III was attempting to maintain English supremacy in Scotland. After Culblean in 1335, patriot forces became increasingly aggressive. Angus was one of the contested areas where local skirmishes determined which side could extract taxes and recruits from the local population.
