The Battle

History & Significance

The Anglo-Saxon Chronicle records that Hengist and his son Aesc fought the Britons at Crecganford (identified with Crayford on the Cray) and slew four companies of men. The Britons abandoned Kent entirely and fled in fear to London. This battle effectively completed the Jutish conquest of Kent.
