History & Significance

The first Yorkist siege of Alnwick Castle began in December 1461 as part of the campaign to recover Northumberland from the Lancastrian-Scottish alliance. Warwick led the besieging force but the siege was interrupted when a Scottish relief army appeared and the garrison was evacuated rather than captured.
