History & Significance

The Robertsons (Clann Donnchaidh) of Struan were among the most ancient clans of Perthshire, tracing descent from the Celtic Earls of Atholl. They were perpetually in conflict with neighbours over the fertile straths around Loch Rannoch. This engagement secured Robertson control of the Rannoch area against Menzies encroachment.
