Invergarry Castle on Loch Oich was the seat of MacDonald of Glengarry, one of the most powerful Jacobite chiefs of the 1689 rising. The castle served as a gathering point for the Great Glen clans — Glengarry MacDonalds, Grants of Glenmoriston and others — before they marched to join Dundee. The muster at Invergarry was a critical component of assembling the Highland army that would fight at Killiecrankie. Government intelligence was unable to monitor or disrupt the gathering in the remote Great Glen.
