History & Significance

Owain ap Cadwgan, the notorious raider of early twelfth century Wales, conducted raids through Ceredigion against Norman settlers and castles. Owain had previously abducted Nest wife of Gerald of Windsor in 1109, provoking Norman pursuit. He returned from exile and continued his guerrilla operations in west Wales until he was killed in 1116 by Gerald of Windsor in an act of private revenge.
