The Battle

History & Significance

Bruce, seriously ill with an unidentified disease near Slioch on the eastern shore of Loch Maree, was attacked by a Comyn force under John Mowbray. Despite his illness Bruce was carried on a litter; his small force drove off the attackers. One of the most dramatic episodes of Bruce's northern campaign — a king on a litter commanding his forces.
