The Battle

History & Significance

Sir Ralph Percy, pardoned by Edward IV and installed as keeper of Bamburgh and Dunstanburgh, defected back to the Lancastrian cause in 1462, surrendering both castles and enabling the Lancastrian recapture of northern Northumberland. The betrayal illustrated the fragility of Yorkist control in the far north.
