History & Significance

The MacKenzies of Kintail defeated a MacDonald force attempting to restore the Lordship of the Isles in Ross-shire. Kenneth MacKenzie surprised and routed the MacDonald army in a defile. The victory confirmed the MacKenzies as the dominant power in Wester Ross — a position they would maintain for two centuries.
